The department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics has been established in 1995 as a department of Basic Sciences of Medical School to give undergraduates a practical knowledge of the statistical principles.

The department is in charge of Biostatistics courses primarily for the 1st year students of Marmara University Medical School and also for the students of Health Science Institute and other faculties and vocational high schools. Biostatistics courses are also given for postgraduate program.

Beside educational activities, the department provides biostatistical consulting service for researchers either from Marmara University Medical School or from other faculties and other universities.

Biostatistics courses, some workshops and seminars are also given by the department upon request. Besides, department has the traineeship opportunity for undergraduates in statistics.
